5 Winter Breakfasts That Are Healthy, Filling & Easy to Make

Winter is the best and coziest season, and you crave comfort in the form of something warm and comforting. The good news is that I have come up with super healthy and filling breakfast options made with traditional grains and organic ingredients. In winter, you need to consume more nutritious food as your body needs power and energy for the whole day long to survive the daily hustle. Ragi or Finger Millet, Khapli or Emmer Wheat Flour, and Black Wheat Flour are good for several reasons, considering their nutritional profile, and hence well-deserved traditional foods I was talking about. They are undoubtedly higher in fibre, minerals, and protein good for immunity, digestion, and overall health.

Here Are Five Winter Breakfast Options For You -

1 - Warm Ragi Porridge with Jaggery & Nuts -

There is nothing better than starting a winter morning with a warm bowl of Ragi Atta porridge. Ragi is already rich in calcium and iron; when added to jaggery and nuts enhances the taste and nutritional value even more.

How to make -

  • Roast 4-5 tablespoons of Ragi Atta in a tablespoon of A2 Gir Cow Ghee until it smells nutty.
  • Add a cup of milk or water and stir consistently to avoid any lumps
  • Add grated jaggery, a pinch of cardamom powder, handful of chopped almonds and walnuts
  • Cook for 5-6 minutes more until the appropriate thick consistency, and cover with a lid to settle it down.
  • Serve hot and enjoy with family and friends.

2 - Khapli Wheat Vegetable Paratha -

A vegetable-stuffed paratha as a breakfast made with Khapli Wheat Flour in winter feels more fulfilling and satisfying. It feels like a proper meal you can have and feel full for the whole day. Khapli Atta has a lower glycemic index and higher protein, with a slight earthy flavour.

How to Make -

  • Knead Khapli into a soft dough; leave it for 10-15 minutes to settle.
  • Make a small ball out of the dough, stuff it with cooked, mixed, and grated vegetables like boiled potato, carrot, green chillies, spinach, with some fresh organic spices like cumin seeds, ajwain, turmeric, and red chilli powder, however you like
  • Roll it out gently and cook on a hot tawa with A2 ghee until golden brown on both sides
  • Serve it with curd and pickle of your choice

3 - Black Wheat Besan Chilla -

Having a savoury breakfast, packed with protein, chilla made with Black Wheat Flour is something best in winters. Black Wheat is naturally rich in anthocyanins, antioxidants, zinc, and iron, making it a powerhouse of health.

How To Make -

  • Take a bowl, add 1 cup of Black Wheat Flour and 1 cup of besan ( Gram Flour)
  • Add sufficient water and whisk properly to make a thick but flowy consistency and to avoid lumps
  • Add a pinch of salt, black pepper, finely chopped vegetables like onion, tomato, green chilli, fresh coriander, turmeric powder, and whisk again.
  • Pour a ladleful of batter on a hot pan already greased with ghee, cook until golden crisp on both sides.
  • Serve hot with your favourite mint chutney or a pickle

4 - Ragi Dosa with Coconut Chutney -

If you want to swap into something more nutritious, a Ragi Dosa is an elegant breakfast on those cold mornings. Wonderfully crisp and golden, serve with garma garam sambhar and nariyal chutney. How awesome is that?

How to Make -

  • Make a thin, flowy batter mixed with Ragi Atta and Rice Flour with curd and let it rest for 15-20 minutes, seasoned with cumin seeds, chopped green chili, and a pinch of salt
  • Spread a thin layer of batter with a ladle on a hot tawa, again greased with ghee, until crisp and golden brown
  • Serve with coconut chutney and sambhar

5 - Black wheat pancake -

Your winter breakfast can be felt like a treat and still be health friendly with fluffy pancakes made with Black wheat flour. Jaggery, Honey and Ghee, all organic. This time it was sweet, warm and comfortable.

How to make -

  • Whisk together a cup of black wheat flour, a teaspoon of baking powder, a pinch of salt, and a tablespoon of jaggery powder, a spoonful of ghee, and a cup of milk or water in a bowl.
  • Check for the lump free smooth batter and leave it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Then pour a ladleful of batter on to a heated pan greased with ghee, spread well and cook until golden brown and fluffy from both the sides.
  • While serving drizzle some honey on top with some seasonal berries you love to have.

How to Make -

  • Take a quality ratio of all three ingredients: Ragi, Khapli and Black Wheat Flour, mix and roast until fragrant.
  • Then add two cups of milk or water and cook for about 6-8 minutes on a low flame; stir well to avoid lumps until it reaches a thick porridge consistency
  • Take off from the flame, add jaggery powder or honey, then some chopped dry fruits, dates, seeds, and coconut crumbles. I’m already mouthwatering.
