What is Panchamrit?

Panchamrit - a pious and sacred religious drink that is offered at the time of puja ceremony uniquely in our Indian culture. Panchamrit is also called Charnamrit in different regions or states. It is a mixture of five important ingredients including milk yoghurt, ghee, and sugar, honey with symbolises purity, sustainability, prosperity, and happiness. They represent the five elements of nature (earth, water, fire, air, and space). It's like a magic drink that gives you calmness and a feeling of sanity and taste definitely amazing.

Why is it important?

The term Panchamrit is derived from two separate words Pancha meaning five and Amrit meaning nectar. The mixture of five ingredients - milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar holds significant spiritual and cultural importance in Hindu rituals and ceremonies. Panchamrit is also used in ritual bathing (abhisheka) considered an offering to the god. The belief is to purify the mind, and body of the devotees.

Get ready with the following ingredients and preparation-

Milk / Curd / Honey / Sugar or Jaggery/ Ghee

Start pouring the milk into a clean bowl then add fresh curd, and mix them well. You can choose sugar, jaggery or honey. But choosing Shiva Organic's Natural Nectar Honey would be anyhow best for both health and taste perspectives. After that add ghee and mix them all thoroughly until a uniform consistency is achieved. Well, replace any other ghee with Shiva Organic's Bilona Ghee - the handmade traditional method retains the best properties with butyric acid, vitamins A2, E and D with Omega3, for better health and well-being. And, finally, for garnishing and aroma, you can add basil leaves, saffron stands, and pieces of dry fruits.

Panchamrit – an essential part of puja ceremony -

Panchamrit is a sacred mixture of five ingredients milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar used in various rituals, ceremonies, and offerings. This has become a ritual in the majority of religions. Each ingredient is pure and holds a significant belief. Offering panchamrit to the people during the puja ceremony disseminates love and blessing. Also fills the gap between cultures and communities for spiritual enlightenment and connection with the divine.

Children crave panchamrit and prasad more when they visit any of the ceremonies. Kids find them so delicious and yummy because of its rich and creamy texture with natural sweetness.  That's why kids want them again and again like little Krishna used to crave butter (Makkhan) they used to steal and tease her mother Yashoda all the time. The combination of panchamrit prasad is not only tasty but also naturally nutritious and provides energy and nourishment. Like little Krishna awaits to dig in the creamy buttery makhan, the same children eagerly await their share during religious ceremonies and celebrations.

Offering panchamrit during puja ceremonies (prayer ritual), in Hindu tradition is a symbol of devotion and purity.  Puja thali is prepared with so many sacred ceremonial items that are needed during the puja.  Panchamrit is a divine blend of milk, honey, curd, and ghee, in a bowl put on the puja thali. Including diya (lamp), incense sticks, flowers, rice grains, and a bell.
